Triple-M toolkits came with an adjustable spanner similar to the one on the extreme right of Rob's picture made either by Shelley or Abingdon King Dick. When I was putting my toolkit together the received wisdom was that such a spanner should be the one measuring 4 1/2” but I’m now inclined to think it should be the 6” version.

What does the team think?

The third from the right on Rob’s photo was called, in my circle of bodgers, a pair of plumbers’ dogs. Made, in the Manchester UK area, by “footprint” whose image was stamped there on. I still have a pair.

The spanner second from the right looks to be the original 6” 'Footprint' brand spanner according to the chapter in Ron Geesin's book on Ellen T.R. (Footprint Works Ltd).

there is indeed a "Footprint" brand stamp - I shall take a picture of it to share.

I also have a couple of "Mole" (R) grips (made in England, of course):

Also of the “apprentice” adjustable? It’s a lot less sophisticated compared to the others, but well worn

Gripping as it has been perhaps this thread has become markedly effete?

The combination of the make, and the size of my adjustable spanner can lead to whole plethora of comments.

Well, I am sure the Dutch will cap that.

In the mean time KevinA's tool would be good insurance against a failed coil but might not measure up against a King Dick.
