Remarkable, I just had a conversation about the depressed state of the market and the contributing factors other than "belt tightening."

Tempting as prices are and even having the view that prices, particularly of pre war vehicles, will recover in the longer term, I have sufficient on my plate for now to see me out.

Prices really don't matter unless you are in the market.

A great opportunity to get into pre war car ownership or to increase ones "collection" but of little consequence to the longer term enthusiast?

I have a friend whose wife didn’t speak to him for a whole month following his secretive purchase of a car. He said it was pure joy for as long as it lasted!

I've announced it, I'm not doing it in secret ....... but I'd better hurry before my wife says she wants a new kitchen.

Tell her you're going for a "cooking MG" rather than a blown car.

I have a friend, who asked me if I would take one of his cars, he had about 25 at the time of various makes, to have some repairs and whilst there he saw a rather lovely Morris Bullnose doctors coupe in exceptional original condition and he bought it. On the way home I asked what he would tell his wife he said "Oh I'll hide it somewhere and in a few months I'll get it out and she will say 'I haven't seen that one before' I will reply 'of course you have we went to wherever in it'"
It seemed to work.

When you say "about" John, does he actually know how many he has at any one time? I have a friend who, when I last asked said, "I think about 17".

Well I asked a friend of his, who sadly is now deceased, and who had known him since their childhood, and he said "I think about 25, but don't ask him he has no idea". That's why I said about 25.
