Seeking historical information on PB 0384 Engine 646APB Registration MG 4293
PB 0384 is an Airline Coupe and it was photographed with front end damage in Richardson and Sons yard in Staines in 1969. It was no longer in Richardson’s yard in 1971. Photo Credit: Wiard Krook
The next known listing for this car that I can find is in the 1982 MMM Directory and the owner is listed as B.C. Barber (possibly aka Brian Barber?).
I am interested in learning when Mr. Barber purchased this car and if possible to confirm that he purchased it from Richardson. I would also like to know when he sold it and to whom he sold it.
Perhaps someone has first hand knowledge of this Airline or a more complete set of the MMM directories and can provide some answers to these questions?
Please note I am not looking for contemporary information (1993 – to the present) on the whereabouts or ownership of this car – that is already known – I am trying to establish the correct ownership trail for this car during the 1960s, 1970s, & 1980s because I think there is some misinformation circulating regarding this MG.
Thanking you in advance for any and all information you can provide on the history of this car.

Dick, I also checked the files of University Motors, based on the registration plate MG4293. Again, no ownership data is present, however, it does confirm the chassis number PB0384 (despite the change of number later in history). It does confirm the sale date was 12 November 1935 after being in their inventory for 35 days.

Thanks Lew, A sale in 35 days was pretty quick. My own PA was at dealerships for a year and didn't sell til the PB was announced and the price of a PA was significantly reduced.

Hello Wiard, Thank you for adding your photos to this post. Can you help me learn anything at all about Brian Barber and when he owned this car? Is there perhaps a magazine article that mentions when he owned it? I will attach below your post from November 15, 2024 on the Airline Facebook page in which you mention Brian Barber owned this car. So far you are the only person that seems aware of his connection to PB 0384 so I welcome any information and assistance you can provide. Best Regards, Franklin "Dick" Sprafke
Wiard Krook November 15, 2024 · PB/0384 Lost and found From the late 1960’s and 1970’s the Dutch MMM and T-type owners often went to England for MG spares.
In 1969 I found myself at the yard of Messrs.S.H. Richardson & Sons in Staines as being the MG-heaven for MMM-spares. Real shocking to have seen in full life a broken down 18/80 Mark I Saloon, a PA and PB Midget Airline Coupe, a F1 Magna Salonette, a L1 Magna Continental Coupe, a K2 Magnette two-seater, lots of J2 Midgets, SVW-types, engines and more stuff. I took some pictures of the PB Airline as memory. ----
----- I could not copy the PB-chassis number, but later it turned out to be PB/0384. At next visit in 1970 I cannot remember have seen this PB Airline again. I read about the rescue by Dave Lawley (GB?) the ownership of Brian Barber (GB), and the total restoration by Kenneth Seymour (USA). Only I do not understand why the original GB-registration number [MG 4293] was changed into [MG 6860] at the ownership of Kenneth. I believed the car found new home in Belgium, but it now seems to be in France.

Dick, If Ken Seymour or the immediately previous owner built the Airline up from 2 different donor cars, it is likely the Ken simply forgot which number went with which car. Or perhaps the registration plate for MG6860 was in better condition than MG5293. Remember, Ken was probably not a historian and the registration numbers meant nothing in Canada.

MG 6860 is too high a number for an original MMM registration. Could the number be from a post war T-type ? Goldie Gardners TC was MG 6963, for example |

In my files I have found another photo of the Seymour car with yet a THIRD number plate: KS6860. Perhaps a nod to his own initials': KS
I guess Ken had no sense of originality.

Hi Lew,
I'm trying to withhold my opinion (and some minor information) to not influence what others might have to say. Hopefully someone will be able to provide more info on the Brian Barber connection to this car.
Best Regards,
