Good evening, Just needing some help on the attached photo. It has a link to Hugh Hamilton but I’m not sure what the link is. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks Neil

The J4, J4002, was crashed by Hamilton at Brno in September 1933 and rebuilt with a new chassis before being lent to Bobby Kohlrausch, along with K3001

Hi Simon, Is that the crash where he very badly injured himself. Broken ribs internal damage? I knew he had raced a white J-type at some stage. Thanks for your help.
Neil

Apparently, Bobby Kohlrausch disappeared during the war, does anyone know what happened to him? Thanks, Chris |

The very same crash. Here he is in the car at Brno. (Ignore the 'Lord' Hamilton!)

Nice white overalls, but the car was, I believe, blue. I think the white paint jobs were done by the factory for Kohlrausch. If Teifion Salisbury stops by he can undoubtedly provide much more info on J4002 as he is its current custodian.

Thanks for that information, Duncan. Another well known MG celebrity who seemed to disappear during the war years was Enid Ridell of whom some very weird stories are known! Chris |

Neil, I see from Safety Fast! that you’re giving a talk on Hammy Hamilton at the Vintage Register AGM. In that case, you might find the article on him in the 2016 Triple-M Register Yearbook useful. It was written by a local motoring historian here in Norn Iron, Mike Wylie, who researched his subject at great length, even managing to make contact with Hamilton's mother. The Yearbook is still available from the Triple-M Library for the measly sum of £9 (plus postage)

For me the mention of Enid Ridell always sparks a note of enormous admiration. Her epic drives in K3008 are grossly overlooked particularly in Les Rallayes Feminin in the thirties which are well documented in The Hawke History of MMM Competition Cars edited by Karl-Joachim Wiessmann, so there's no need to elaborate here. However, please note her successes in the up to 1800cc class in her 1100cc K3. Her dogged determination to finish despite spark plug problems(legend has it she changed 109 in one rallye alone!)and freezing temperatures, icy roads and scant personal protection places her, in my mind, as an unsung and forgotten MG heroine. As to her personal and political beliefs and activities, I say, "each to their own" in times we neither experienced nor can readily understand.

Well said Duncan. Enid Ridell's disgraceful Pro-Nazi views and activities are stomach turning and deeply offensive

No Rob, no excuses.

I think it best if Nick now closes down this thread. |

Thanks, Duncan. I was unaware of the details. My understanding was she disappeared during the war. Obviously not! Thanks, Chris |

Hamilton's crash was v.serious, so much so he went to India shooting tigers as part of his recovery! The white paint was indeed added by the factory when they rebuilt the car before selling to Kohlrausch.
