I am sure I read somewhere that either Jones or Flower was disabled? This would be supported by the fact that the period photo shows one of the men in what looks like an invalid chair. What an amazing collection of trophies! George. |

it's taken me 2 years to get it to a nice state of preservation.....I prefer preservation / Conservation over restoration....interestingly the Sunbeam has a large history file of Competition too owned and campaigned by a Mr. R T Green as an amateur in many Trials & Grass Track events in which he received many medals all of which came with the bike in a big box he was a prominent member of the Sidcup & District MCC and campaigned the bike all over the Country including the 1929 Southern Trial of which I have paper cuttings the bike is and has always been a Kent Reg and always been in Kent which is why I bought it just to keep it in Kent a few years longer than the 98 years it's been here......anyway just for you JH a couple more check out this particular medal.....LOL.....it meant something different before the Nazis hijacked it......I should keep this stuff for the Marston Sunbeam Club & Register forum of which I'm obviously a member also a member of the VMCC and now a member of the MGOC and soon to be a member of the VSCC too blimey that's a lot of club memberships are there any others I should be a member of......LOL

Russ,
Are you sure it’s the MG Car Club forum you’re trying to access?

Thanks for those extra photos of the Sunbeam Russ, my kind of condition! - jealous; moi? The history of your J2 is well known to the MMM Register, though it only emerged in the early 2000s after many years in hiding as it were. You probably already know that J E S Jones exploits in the car lead to him driving a "works" Cracker (T Type rather than MMM). The car had gone to ground post war, though Researchers knew of it's pre-war exploits with Philip from period publications etc. Then out of the blue Dudley approached a couple of Marshalls on the Lands End Trial (Grassam & Co I think) with a whole load of his Aunts photos, more importantly; he told them where/when she'd disposed of the car. It was a local Garage & MMM sleuth nearby Dave Brown popped round only to find it still there running, back in standard trim!

fantastic thanks.... I know the back story from Barry's sales blurb how the car came to light.....the car was apparently dismantled during the war but in 1950 it was found at a Garage in Poole Dorset in a sale of MG Spares the fellow who found it was an avid VSCC member and an Aston Martin Dealership owner a Mr. Ivan Forshaw who bought it all and who started a slow re assembly he wanted to finish it for his sons Rogers birthday......it happened to be his 60th birthday in 2000.....so that's a 50 yr rebuild.....quite slow eh!....LOL.....anyway after all that time and effort Roger wasn't really interested in it as it sounds like he never quite got it running well at all and so Roger only did about 300 mls in it before stashing it away at the back of the Aston garage that was until 2009 when despite the engine being rebuilt with all the uprated quality parts he drove it again for a few more test miles where I'm guessing he still couldn't get it running right and so laid it up again in 2010 that is until last month.....when Barry bought it......that's roughly the story I believe....with the exception that Saturday just gone I bought it......and very pleased I am too

Russ,
Barry's story of your car makes interesting reading and I noticed he says that it has “its ORIGINAL factory cereleun blue seats!” - see this picture from Barry's site (hope you don't mind, Barry? ). That could mean that they still have their original air cushions. Do you know if that is the case?

I'll have to defer this question to Barry.....I'm in the process of learning about the car and it's History.....but the Seats do look good though lovely patina as they say....I'll look into how to look after the leather as they will get worn out and split I'm sure at some point J3437

No worries, Russ.
Barry, can you say whether the seats still have their air bags?
