Cycle wing J2 wanted (swept wing car considered). Or PA/PB preferably with cycle wing conversion and preferably with bucket seats. Supercharged car would be good. I am not looking for a rebuild project but also doesn't need to be a concours winner. I would though like the major components to be correct - e.g. I don't want a J2 with a non-J2 engine. Yes I realise that it's debatable whether a PA/PB with cycle wings has its major components 'correct' but there you are, blame my peculiar taste. Good money waiting for the right car if anyone can help. Thank you

There is a swept winged j2 with a p type engine. It seems it has been done properly so will be a good buy. I see you prefer cycle wings, I do too but when you see this it may change your mind. It's for auction with h an h on wednesday oct 19. |

That j2 at buxton made I believe 33000. But is now readvertized at 45000. It must have been as good as it looked It was a good buy. I think it will sell quick as its a very pretty car. |

Has the world gone completely mad! Being an owner of several J2s, I cannot think why anyone would ever wish to pay £45,000 for a standard J2 no matter how good it may be!

It's the most I've ever seen a j for. But if that car was a wreak you would have to pay the best part of £15000 then you have to restore it. If you restore it properly and don't cut corners you will spend best part of £15000 to £20000. It will then stand you at 30000 to 35000 and that's not counting your labour. I think mg's are cheap cars compared to other things on the market.

Adding the restoration costs to over priced restoration wrecks Greg is not necessarily a good indicator on final value unless of course it is a rather special vehicle which MG midget's don't fall into that bracket because they are fairly plentiful.
This is where many people go wrong and end up disappointed in over expectation on value.

J2s are not plentiful at the moment unfortunately. Richard - if you've got several then I think you should sell some immediately - but not for £45,000 ! |

I have just seen that Barry Walker has marked as sold a Centric blown matching numbers PA with fitted overdrive for £45000. The car is described as concours and was reimported following a rebuild in the USA. Is this a record price for a non ex-works P type?
He is also advertising a T/Q for £49500!
With the value of genuine K3s going to £400,000 plus I suppose it is inevitable that the more mundane Triple-M cars will continue to rise in value. Certainly at the very top of the Classic car market the values of Ferraris etc are reaching record levels, perhaps the investors have stepped in!!

Inflation is running at around 5% and the world financial markets volatile to say the least, people rather spend their money and I suspect this has much to do with these increased prices |

Its looking like there about to go up another 10,000. I think it's worth it for all the time and money that goes into building them. I'm building a j it's costing a lot of money to build it properly but I don't care how much money it's costs because I'll keep it forever. I would would like to build more cars after this one but i worry because let's say 20 years time i think the prices will fall massively because I don't think that many people will want them. I am 26 and I think I may be the youngest j2 owner and Im one of the youngest mmm owners. There's no young people coming into it. |

Greg 28 years old D project owner here! And no MMM ownership does not run in the family ;)
I do think some of the prices asked are silly. They do reflect the price it costs to restore a MMM to good standard but that is mainly because project seem to go for silly money.

Slow ! Work study and 2 post war mg's tend to get in the way. But at this pace my walet can just about keep up. I do have some family connection as my cousin runs the best MG garage in holland. He got me hooked to classics by letting me drive his mental mini once from there it has been a quick path in to the world of MG

See Bonhams Harrogate Sale - November 16th. - catalogue, Lot 357, for a good-looking J1; IMHO so much better than a modified swept-wing car.
