I do not think that Lewis Alfred Welch, or his brother Dennis were closely related to Alan J Welch. See my piece in Safety Fast February 2011. However would like to hear more of the Alan Welch family, as I have family history back to Jesse and Charlotte Welch in Warwickshire when he was Inspector of Police in 1834! Pre MG police car days!
In the June 1935 Motor Sport page 356 there is a report of the Ulster A. C. fifth Rally which finished in Bangor in glorious weather, when A. J. Welch finished 4th in Class 1 (up to 13 h.p.) with 519 marks. First in Class was a Triumph, with a Standard in second and another MG driven by D Hooke in third place
How fascinating to hear about the National Tyres registration thingy. My J2 is correctly recorded as MG petrol two seat sports.
An Austin Ruby that my Scout troop used to take to summer camp in 1950s on the back of a lorry also appears on the list. The number is now on a Mercedes saloon. I often wondered what happened to that number....it was "BAD 1" Not too surprised it is still on a car!!
