There are two references to this event in Australian newspapers - Sunday Times (Perth) 19th October, 1930 - Advertiser (Adelaide) 11 November, 1930. Searches for further information have so far been unsuccessful.
The Advertiser story contains quite some detail of the planned route - "their point of departure was London, and they are travelling through Europe to India and thence to China. The tourists will then embark for America and will proceed to New York via San Francisco."
The Shell company were organising fuel drops along the route, as the car carried no extra fuel !.
It would be nice to find out how far they went. No doubt had they completed the trip, we would have been well aware today.
We may have to track down living descendants of the two gentlemen to find the answer.

Actually RX 7367 was red, according to its old chassis file...

Graham, Does the chassis file contain a chassis number, and has the car ever been on the register ?.
Has anyone contacted the Shell Company Archives to see if they have any records remaining of the journey ?.
They appear to have simply disappeared after the start. No doubt the MG factory would have been involved too ?.
Did the car have any known history with Abingdon ?.
Did they make it to France - any French newspaper archives available online (if they survived the occupation) ?.
Let's not give up searching just yet please.

The database does contain a number, but I think there must be some kind of error as it is listed as chassis number U151122210829

Whoops - I jumped to a conclusion here and there is actually no evidence that the colour was red. The chassis number does not seem to have ever been recorded, but the registration number RX7367 was listed in close proximity to one car, but not necessarily attached. Thus we cannot say its colour or chassis number. If it has ever been on the register its history was unknown...
I should also add the the mysterious chassis number referred to be Lew above is what the system creates for cars we wish to record but for which we cannot give that all important detail!

Thanks for making this such an interesting thread. With new (to me at least) information form the early 30's motor magazines. In the mean time I have contacted Shell and the seller of the model in the hope that more information might surface.

I contacted the Model Maker yesterday, and the Blue was just a random choice. I have directed the model maker here, so he may be along shortly to see the trouble he has caused - just kidding, love this thread !. Tony
