A friend of mine is in the process of rebuilding a diff (2 star Minor/M-type) and has asked for my help. I haven't done one of these for years. Here are his questions. Anyone able to offer any guidance?

"....In the meantime I have stripped the rear axle, and as expected, the pinion
ballrace is completely worn out. I have consulted the diff instructions
which you kindly sent me last year, MG Road Cars page 114-117, and have
made up the setting gauge. Before I set the diff to these dimensions, I
would just like to check that these are also good for my diff, as there
seem to be considerable variations. The setting gauge seems to be much
wider than is necessary, and the length of the spacer between the bearings
is stated as 75 thou longer than mine. Quite probably mine is wrong in some
respects, but I thought I ought to check before I use them. The Blower book
is not much help either, as the only dimensioned diff looks as if it is
from a later model..."
