Good Morning, I have a problem with my J2 / 4 project. The right knuckle (see photo) has a big crack. I'm not sure if I can weld the part. Does anyone have such a part that he can sell me? In advance thank you for your help. Frank

I have a pair of knuckles that look the same. I will try and locate over the weekend and take some photos and measurements. |

Frank,
The picture you posted is not as a J2 knuckle should be, it has had the top/front cut out which has weakened it and that is why it has cracked. I hope the knuckle on the other side is not the same. If so you should look for a pair of knuckles

That would cause some head scratching for the Registrar! With a pair of knuckles, and thus a pair of chassis numbers, which car would you have?

Simon,
Would you use a pair of knuckles that have been cut away as per the picture?
As I am sure you know new knuckles are available and I would think that the 'powers to be' would accept them if the original ones were thought to be unsafe. There would of course be conditions set to them being used.

I wasn't referring to new knuckles, Peter, as your suggestion of looking for a pair didn't imply new ones - hence my commment about two chassis numbers. New ones are a different matter altogether.

Surely Simon, a pair would be handed so only the right hand one would have a number?

Quite so - and isn't the damaged one referenced here a LHS one ?

Dave and Dick,
Please read Peter Green's first post in which he suggests that the other knuckle might also been damaged - hence the need for two!

Peter's point, as I understood it, was that the offside knuckle might also have been bodged and need replacement. And that's where the problem would arise if using original second hand knuckles.
