Last week we stopped for coffee at a little café in Hartland, North Devon. They had on the wall a really good photo taken in the village square showing about a dozen interesting motors with rally numbers said to be "circa 1930" As there was a PA and a J2 plus Triumph Gloria, Morris 8, Aston Martin, Riley Monaco etc.it was more like 1935. Could only read the reg no. of the PA which was CD 9676 with rally number 12.Don't think the PA has survived. Simon C.

Fascinating. Alas CD 9676 may not have survived - n/k to the Register, anyway ....

Hartland is of course a place of much motor sport, especially trials, as the Lands End passes through the area.
It was also the home of Cyril Fulford Dobson's Mother! C.F.D drove the first M type on the 1929 Lands End Trial, after driving numerous 14/40s including "Speckled Hen" in the 1928 Edinburgh Trial gaining many gold medals along the way.
Having said all that a car having the number 12 on it does not make it on the Lands End as it would have had a high number, that of about 150, as the motor bikes go first!
However, many other trials went on in the area!

That's interesting; so Hartland would have been "on the map" as a rally halt. The J2 had its hood up -- noted the back window opening had the rounded top. Simon C.
