This is a story with a happy ending. It relates to C /M3227.
Back in 1956 when Barry Robinson was still too young to drive he became the owner of a cut down M-type Sportsman's Coupé.
Barry showed an early flare for engineering and after a considerable amount of work and old enough to drive the M-type on on the road for the first time he discovered the original engine had a major oil leak from the vertical drive and the clutch slipped badly on steep hills. So Barry replaced it with a Ford 8 engine. The gravity feed tank was replaced with one at the rear.
The car now went well but while Barry was away furthering his education (and without his knowledge) his father sold the car. On Barry's return he was understandably very upset but in spite of all his efforts he was unable to trace his lost M-type.
60 years on the story has a happy ending and to Barry's delight thanks to Chris Lambert of the Pre War Minor Network spotting an ad for the car on eBay and sharing it on his excellent website, Barry is now reunited with the M-type which he owned 60 years ago.
For the present Barry plans to enjoy the car with its Ford engine but he has an original M-type engine and he has every hope the car will eventually be properly restored as an M-type Sportsman's Coupé. In the meantime Barry wants to fully research his car's history and put together everything he can towards its eventual return to its original form.
Any information to fill in the car's history over the last 60 years and the period before Barry first owned it would be much appreciated. He is very keen to learn all he can from other Sportsman's Coupé owners or anyone who has information to share.
