A basic but rather important question.
Can anyone recommend a source for literature on how to maintain a K3? Is there a generic diagnostics manual? Was an owners service manual ever produced for K3’s?
I realise that there are marque specialists to whom it is possible to send a car for major works, but in terms of should it be running rough or routine checks to be performed, how does one gain this expertise? Many thanks
David

David,
Of course, the K had the usual manual that came with all Triple-M cars, specific to that particular model. However, some years ago I was given a copy of a small 11 page manual entitled "Supplementary Instructions for the Magnette K3 Racing Model". It covers the items which differed from the standard unsupercharged model such as the pre-selector gearbox, brakes, valve gear and timing, engine rpm, and even spec details for use in filling out a race entry form. It has a publication date of August 1934.

Dear Lew,
Many thanks for such a quick response.
As follow on questions: Do you know of any book seller or person that would be able to sell me a copy of the "K Manual" and/or the "Supplementary Instruction Manual"?
Likewise are there any books that you can recommend as to the "do's and don't" of driving and maintaining a K3 ?
My dilemma is that whilst I have rudimentary knowledge about owning vintage cars itÆs not specific to the Marque, or to pre selectors. I'm essentially trying to ensure that I avoid making the basic ôschool boy errorsö.
Many thanks of any advice that you or the Forum members might be able to give me.
Kind regards,
David

David,
I will be pleased to supply you with a copy of the supplementary K3 instructions, and advise on the other information. Please e-mail me at alanfgw@yahoo.co.uk.

David, Also worth bearing in mind, is that much will have changed over the years. Many parts, bearings, seals etc now widely used have been re-engineered. The internals & spec of any engine will almost certainly vary considerably depending on whoever carried out the most recent major work. That's who you would need to seek out. As for gaining the expertise - it is often done the hard way!
