I well remember marshalling at Brands Hatch in the 60s when Syd raced it against Geoff Coles in his J4? and Malcolm Beer in the 2 seater K3. Malcolm also used to come out in the ex Harvey Noble type. Most of the cars back then hadn't had multi thousand pound rebuilds but were what I probably romatically imagined were the original real thing. Happy days.

Syd was often up in our neck of the woods, as he was best mates with the then North East Center chairman and MGCC vice president Jack Armstrong.
The picture was probably after one of our well known sprint events at Topcliffe airfield, and Jack would have persuaded him to widen his competitive sphere.
In my day Jack had "modern" MG's and a mini fleet of TD's.
However when he first qualified as a GP in Ulster he had a new or nearly new M-type as his daily car.
