I use one of those very handy magnetised metal dishes when servicing the car, which prevents tools and parts rolling of the scuttle and chipping the body work, but unfortunately leaves the spanners magnetised. Can anyone advise of a way to de-magnetise at home?
Regards.

Pass them over any AC magnetic field. A trandformer type soldering gun (not a soldering iron) works well. So does a bulk recording tape eraser.

A satisfactory degauser can be made from the stator of an AC motor. I have one made from a small single phase two pole fan motor mounted inside a plastic box with access holes each side and a push bitton switch. It works well but the small size of the centre hole is a bit restrictive.
For years all my tools used around my vice have mysteriously been becoming magnetised for no obvious reason so my degauser is in fairly constant use.
