Do our cars legally need windscreen wipers, or not.
I believe the legal side for an MOT states they are not required when, 1 - Vehicle has an opening windscreen. 2 - Some other means of providing driver with an adequate view.
Advice here please, my car is an early J2. Sean |

Is it an "opening" or a "folding" screen that is specified as not needing wipers? I wonder if folding down the screen (with no wipers) for the test would be ok. As I only have aeroscreens fitted, I pass every time. One day I'll get round to also fitting the screen and wipers...
I have heard from two sources recently (one was in the last MMM Bulletin) that some people run full screens with only Rainex, and no wipers at all! Difficult to believe this works ok, although Rainex certainly is good stuff. Is it really that good?

One less job to worry about, one less thing to fail.
Have double checked this matter, and two MOT garages i have spoken to will happily pass any of these cars with no wipers, screen raised or otherwise. So if i will get a good soaking, where is the drain plug in the floor please, or should i just buy a wet suit.
Oh dear, rain forecast for tomorrow... Sean |
