Half shafts replaced. New rear bearings etc have gone in including the felt seal and to stop it rotating there is this little spike. I had never noticed it before...

Looks like it was intended to keep the felt seal from rotating.

(Oops, I guess you already said that.)

It is correct, they were fitted when new.
