While in Forum posting mode and probably after suitable feeding and drinking in preparation to welcome the New Year my thoughts always turn to January and the aniversaries of three significant happenings that have very much had an impact on my life.

1. Donald Campbell's death on the 4th attempting to raise the water speed record to 300mph. His inspiration led me to attempt things with the R type and is still an inspiration on my present project.
It was one of those occassions that you rememmber exactly where you were at the time.

2. H.N. Charles died on I think the 18th. No need to explain to Triple-M enthusiasts his influence on me and many others with his legacy.

3. Anniversary of the Benny Goodman Carnegie Concert in 1938 which upon hearing in the mid 1950s embarked me on a lifelong interest and appreciation of Big Bands and Swing Music of the 30s & 40s.

Anyone else in remembering mood?

Best wishes for 2013 to all Forum Posters and Readers.

Bob Stringfield born Jan. !st-2nd 19(censored). Not much dramatic effect there!

PA 0603 was 'serving' in the R.A.F. at the time.

Yes Bob memories.
I was waiting for a flight to return to the USA when Campbell's death was announced. The film was replayed over and over again on the airport television screens in black and white.
I remember clearly competing in the MGCC Salisbury trial in my PA when Churchill died.
I am so thankfull that when I started my 70th year this morning I woke up with most of my systems including memory intact.
All the best for 2013.
Allan
