Thank you Peter for your vote of confidence in Karl's knowledge!
I apologise if it appeared that I was doubting him, but it's just that it's tricky to decide who's spot on, and who's talking absolute tosh from the various individuals that have suggested names and models to me over the last couple of days.
So from your post Karl, we can pretty much assume that it is...
I.H. Nickols driving #2 MG J4 (J4007) at Crystal Palace on 25 June 1938.

I certainly agree with Peter, the car is neither a K3 nor a Q, the track is far too narrow! The suspension is not R type either.
I am always amazed at the amount of historical information our membesr have.

Thank you George & Cat for your votes of confidence as well!
I have managed to find out that the 25 June 1938 meeting was actually called the London Grand Prix, so this is what we know so far then...

Hi all Check out 2010 yearbook article
Nichols j4007 heat 1, 5th and then 9th in final
K3004 wilton 5th and K3009 cuddon Fletcher 3rd
RA0256 esplen 8th, K3015 JHT Smith DNF
Looks like J4007 DNF in 1937 event, can't see any other records.

Thanks Mark - that's great!
This is what someone else has stated over on the Ten-Tenths forum, extracted from a book entitled 'A Record of Motor Racing at Crystal Palace' by the Formula One Register...
In Heat 1 he was of course in the first group to start at 70" ahead of the scratchman (Louis Gerard Delage D6) and ran 3rd until lap 5 (of 10) when he dropped to 4th. On lap 8 he was passed by Maclure (Riley) and ended 5th, 20 secs behind winner Bira.
In the 16 lap Final the "limit " cars received 112". Lap 1 he was 5th of the 8 in his group of starters. The 1500s started to catch the limit cars after about 6 laps and he gradually fell back to 9th, still 5th of the "limit" cars. The winner was Bira from Dobson.
...although I haven't got a clue what half of that means?

Hi Mark,
I must have some problems with my emails then as I have had someone else state the exact same thing! That is most strange though, as there's no reason why it should do that! Rather than ask my wife to have a look at it, I'll do so myself when I get home this evening, and let you know when all is OK.
Mmmmmm, £200 is a lot more flush than I am at the moment for sure! Having said that, it's only the MG side of things that interest me so I might not actually refer to it that much if I did manage to afford one anyway. Many thanks all the same for the link though.
