Does this car have Pre-War Brooklands history or is it so described because it is built to look like a Brooklands special?

Peter.

Peter,
sorry can't answer your question, but obviously the car is NA0459, and there is a article in the MMM Yearbook 2001.

The ex John Wallinger 'special', is I'm afraid just that...a special. John and his wife came to see me back in our 'Chislehurst' days to look for a project/retirement project, and they eventually purchased a dismantled, but good standard 'N' type, which had never seen 'Brooklands' or any other race track to my knowledge, and the chassis file showed no different.
John set about building his 'own design' of car, not truely based on any particular pre-war MG race car. John's engineering skills were superb and the ingredients in this car will be properly put together, but as for the 'Brooklands' connection, this can only be a descriptive means of expressing the 'look' or 'shape' of this car. As to price....well, let the market decide, but I won't be bidding.

Peter,
I stand to be corrected, but I don't think it has any period Brooklands History. It has previously been entered in the "Spirit of Brooklands" class at the Museum's annual 12/12 event, rather than the class for "Cars With an Actual Brooklands History". You would have thought that it would have been the latter class if it did have.

The car was displayed on the Bonhams stand at VSCC Silverstone, it was in such exotic company as a long wheel base Alfa Romeo AC2300 which had been in the same ownership for over 40 years..

The MG is very much a special with an elaborate body etc. It will be interesting to see what bids it attracts.

Impressive looking car , It was at Brooklands Sprint a few years back, running on Methanol driven by Robert Dean. A 53.9, Not particularly quick considering. I beat that time last year in the PB. Must have more in the tank if sorted and driven!!!

Has it actually competed anywhere else?

Certainly does not do anything for me I am afraid. There was a much better looking N special for sale in Germany a couple of months ago. Personally I would rather have a nice blown standard looking N or NE style body !

I agree with Terry, I do not find it an attractive car.

I rather like it for what it is! Much better than another N/K3 lookalike.

Some of the photos don't give it justice the one above isn't great. When you see it in real life then it's really nice. The body work is amazing. I'd like to know who did it. I'm not sure if it would look a lot better painted.
I would imagine it would cost as much as a k3 rep to build if not more. 80,000 is quite cheap in my eyes. It's a proper decent special.
You could always buy a Q type special on a t type chassis with a Xpag engine mini supercharger with a ford 5 speed box and Vw steering with modern instruments for £60,000
