A Morgan 3 wheeler with exposed Matchless or JAP V twin up front is one of the very few cars I would consider swopping my triple m mg for

We just sold our gamecock.....and bought a J2 project!!!

No comparison in any way but I know what I m happier with. One is a steady comfortable cruiser that the golf clubs fit in , the other a rusty pile of bits with the potential to be a huge amount of fun!!!

I had a JAP engined Morgan (JH9007) and a J2 (MG22705) and the MG is streets ahead, and if you want a car for golf clubs, my Mother had a 1935 Triumph Gloria Golfers coupe, which had a small door in the side to put the golf club bag behind the front seats.

Greg perhaps means that he wouldn't swap for anything with a heater, sound system, safety belts, airbags, crash protection and E10 compatibility, and which complies with current EU legislation. (No doubt already featured in 'The Automobile'.)

To me, a particular J2 is worth more than any K3......

Greg I am fortunate I don't have a K3. I'd obviously be stuck with it.

The nice lady at the local branch of Smiths inform me that they no longer stock 'The Automobile' since fewer than three copies have been sold of recent editions.

'MG Enthusiast', though, has a longish P-Type article, but, at £4.25, I have better uses for the money.

The drop in retail sales of The Automobile, could be a direct result of Mr Matthew Bell's scurrilous attack on all things MG. A much more likely reason is the publisher's recent drive to increase postal sales by offering a discount on 12 editions - as circularised through the VSCC. I find it very much more convenient to receive my edition by post instead of having to keep an eye on the newsagent's shelf each month. Most of the articles in the magazine (with the exception of Mr Bell's efforts) are very well researched and written, covering many vehicles I have never come across before. They even have interesting MG articles from time to time - but none in recent months.

All this talk of Magazines...... I have recently been given the last 18 months or so of Enjoying MG the mag of the MG Owners Club. Fantastic mag packed with regular articles of Triple M interest.
In just 20 or so issues I found:-

1) 1933 What a Year - great Triple M pictures - 6 pages
2) Henry William Allingham 3 page article
3)A.T Goldie Gardner very good 6 page article with excellent pics
4)MG Saloons 1930 -38 - 6 pages
7)The J2 at 80 by one of our Forum members on the ups and downs of J2 ownership - 4 pages
8)Mannin Beg Races 1933 -34, 6 pages again excellent
9)Compression Testing - what it will tell you
10) Never in a Million Years _ Jeremy Rivers-Fletcher on his re-union with his fathers old N type
11)Letters to Salesmen - Cecil Kimbers letters to Salesmen -6 pages
12) MG - The Swiss Connection - swiss coachbuilt triple M cars
13)A Visit to Nuffield Place
14)MG's in the Colmore Trial - 1930.s Trial Article - 6 pages
15)The Birth Of MG - 1923 to 1927
16) MG Heroes - Lord Nuffield

Many of these articles are by my old neighbour Malcolmm Green and as always with him they are well researched and include excellent pictures from his own collection many of which have not been seen before.

Such excellent articles of Pre War interest plus the recent death of our local natter compared to the very active local Owners Club makes it likely that I will re-join very soon - maybe a Birthday present.

If not a member dig out the articles if you can they are well worth the effort.

One has to wonder why these didn't appear in Safety Fast. Or there again, perhaps not.

Like many, I have relinquished my Automobile subscription some time ago, and now only browse the odd copy in the newsagents. Being a VSCC member primarily but having had a PA in the family for nearly 40 years, I find the friendship and camaraderie from most motor clubs, one make or otherwise to be most rewarding. At the end of the day, preserving and using our 'old cars' is everyone's common goal. People are entitled to their opinion and some even dare to put it in print. It's just a pity that they don't avail themselves of all the facts before doing so.
