New eBay listing with no reserve. Note the advert indicates it is for sale off eBay for $14,500 USD. Sounds like a bargain. Anyone know the car?

Very strange. It looks like a 4 seater PB (dashboard and radiator) and the photo of the makers plate has an XPAG Engine code though the engine is clearly seen in the photo's as a P type

The price seems very low

All in all I am somewhat suspicious

Be very careful here. I have seen this car for sale before with these pictures. If anyone is interested, be sure to get an in person inspection and proof of ownership.

I note from the web page that the seller has ended the advert due to an error!

As a matter of interest the Registration number is not shown in the 2013 printed Register.

It is a bit concerning that it may not be genuine, as per Lew's warning, following as it does the possible fraud over the sale of some spares as noted in another posting and the ENV gearbox saga.

Hi All
This is the car I looked at in Houston TX at Christmas time. At that time someone had put some money down on it. So I do not know who has the car. It was at http://driver-source.ebizautos.com/inventory.aspx?_makef=mg
When we looked at it. The asking price was around $58000.00USD. I would be very careful. The car looked like it had a new coat of paint. The rest was not in the best shape.

Just took a look at the photos on Ebay. They are the same ones that were on the Dealers website when we looked at the car.

It is now relisted, still no reserve, but now indicates it is for sale( off eBay?) at $62,500 USD. Interested to see what happens.

What a 'dog's dinner', or a 'bu@@er's muddle' - whichever you prefer!

Engine number 1099AP claimed to be with PA1902 was almost certainly fitted originally to PA0846.

I understand that the 2009 Triple-M register listing shows PA1092 with engine number 1099AP as UK registration number MG 3717, MMM489 in New Zealand?

If this is correct (I do not hold a copy) this is most odd because my copy of the listing contained in the 1993 Triple-M Yearbook shows Register No. 489 as allocated to PB0465 with UK registration number MG 3717. This registration number went with PB0465 from new.

Perhaps the Registrar would care to comment on the matter?

John,

The Register has PA1902 (not 1092) listed with engine number 1099AP with the annotation 'ex-PA 0846'.

The entry states the registration number to be "TJ 9045(?)" but evidently the car "had MG 3717 (ex PB 0465)"

The Lancs Police history is recorded as "Lancs Police, P. Davis pre-'67, R. Goord ('64-'67 was on chassis PB 0465) '67 -'69, ANO or Goord '69-21/5/71"

Interesting that the car has a TC guarantee plate (re-stamped) "with the correct PA chassis and engine numbers".

I wonder what the chassis knuckle stamping looks like ..!

Seems that there may be some fog obscuring the picture?

Did the ex-police PAs originally have the PB style dashboard?

The chassis stamping looks to be correct. Not sure what to make of the jumble of numbers on the block, though, and the TC guarantee plate speaks for itself.

Nice to see a rusty vertical drive coupling, though!

In reply to Dick, I transposed the chassis number; PA1092 should have read PA1902 - sorry!

However, something is wrong here and needs straightening out. I'll be back with another reply when I've got more time.
