Yes Sam, in Windows Explorer if you click on the file you should get a little window telling you the resolution. Or your image viewing programme should show it.

Robin,

That crop would be great if you could email it to me although I'd love to have the full picture as well.

Many thanks.

The scans of the factory photographs will be handed to the committee when the scanning project is completed. I'm roughly half way through at the moment.

Regards

Robin

I presume the original photographs were done on a plate camera, or one with a decent sized film- so resolution should be good. The cropping of the image certainly is rewarding.

ditto!

I like that picture of the M-type bodies but I think it illustrates the point about these, because I can see differences between each of the 3 bodies you can see from the side in their crate - the easy ones to spot are the bolts/fixings in the wheel wells, which are in different positions in each. And I'm not at all sure, but isn't the one on the right a metal skinned one?

I've had access to several dilapidated, but I suspect original, M-type bodies over the years and have certainly observed significant structural differences, and some minor (or should that be midget) dimensional variations too. I believe they wee all supplied by Carbodies - and I seem to recall a cost price of about £4 10s each in one of the books - but I wonder if they sub-contracted?

I heartily agree with the value of original photos. I have several excellent ones of JO 2288 (including the one Oliver Richardson found and which graces the current printed edition of the register) and I spot new things every time I look at them - probably handy as I prepare to start the post-barrel-roll restoration!!!

MYSTERY HOLE !
Whilst the subject of M-Type bodies has surfaced again, I wonder if anybody has any thoughts about the use of the mystery hole in the vertical wood piece of the body adjacent to the petrol tank.
There is one on each side and as the holes are very neat, and at a slight angle to the horizontal, I would assume that they were original to the car.
One of the M's at the Welsh weekend had a similar hole in one of his uprights - the other one had been replaced.
I think I have an answer to the conundrum. But it would be interesting to know if anybody else with original wood work has similar holes, and any idea as to their use
Sam - you needn't answer as I have bent your ear about this at length !!

Not original, I do not think, but may be an answer!

Too high up, Mike, and the factory would never have run wiring like that.

This is the original body from 2112 originally a fabric bodied car. No holes. The 2 holes on the driver's side were where someone had fitted a spare sparking plug holder. Surely wasn't original as it only had 3 plug spaces. I assume it was for a six cylinder car and that there would have been another one the other side.
