An American university library probably isn't the first place you'd expect to find photos of EX135. However, the Revs Institute at Stanford houses the Collier Collection's photograph collections. Most of them are American, but amongst the gems is what remains (I suspect a lot were lost!) of John Dugdale's personal picture archive.

For those who aren't aware of him, John Dugdale wrote for The Autocar in the late 1930s and shared duties as Grand Prix reporter with Brian Twist and Sammy Davis. He later adapted some of his Autocar writings into the book Great Motor Sport of The Thirties.

The John Dugdale Archive holds a total of 693 of his photographs and among those you will find 108 tagged 'Major Goldie Gardner', which show Goldie's 1939 record runs at Dessau in Germany - including some bonus shots of Lurani and Nibbio. Some are even in colour.

Other highlights include Dugdale's pictures of the victory dinner after Dick Seaman's German GP win and of his trip to Bonneville with John Cobb in 1939 - again including some colour shots.

There are another ten pictures tagged Dugdale in the Karl Ludvigsen Collection, all erroneously dated 1952: one shows Dugdale's own MG special, which was deliberately liveried in black to mimic Dick Seaman's K3.

The Revs Institute also holds the Marcus Chambers Archive, which may also be of interest to some.

Enjoy! https://revslib.stanford.edu/
