We have a starter motor that is going the wrong way round after putting in new brushes?? Any ideas or clues how to resolve, please? It is a simple 2-brush motor and even though it is 6V running on 12 V, I did not think that starter motors were polarity sensitive.

Tom,

Are you sure you replaced the wires to the brushes in their original position? I've never tried doing it wrong, but I would bet that this may have something to do with it.

Hi Lew
You are absolutely right. I do not know how, but must have somehow got the wires crossed over. Now all is well, thank you. I also found a very interesting web site about series wound starter motors and how to convert them to reversible and variable speed for use in robots!!
