Neil William Gardiner was the owner of the Great Auclum estate and the instigator of the speed trials and hill claims that took place there.
I am trying to establish whether information I have been given about one of Gardiner's cars is correct. According to his son, David, Neil drove a 2.5 6 Cylinder MG at Brooklands. Given that he drove his last race at Brooklands in 1932, the only such MG that springs to my mind (given I am a complete novice on such matters) is the 18/80. Does anyone have records of pre-war 18/80 ownership that can verify whether NW Gardiner owned one?
There was an N. W. Gardiner who drove an 18/80 Mk 1 Special registration number UV 1333 at the BARC Whitsun meeting at Brooklands on 25th May 1931. He had the competition number 3. It may have looked similar to "KX 5195".
