I have been delving in one of the packing cases and came up with two panels which are the same, but one from each car. This has gone some way to answer some questions.

The top panel is red paint so is from J2353.

The lower panel is from J4129 which started out green ( a small section is visible ), then cream, lastly a very crude hand painted black. This will also go some way to answer a previous question on the gauge clusters, one is painted cream which has the unusual MG logo.

The lower valance has no bonnet catch anchoring holes. Could suggest this was a swept wing car??? See there has been a bonnet strap also.

Yes Rich, You are spot on. J4129 was a swept wing, with competition history so probably did sport a bonnet strap. I am waiting to see if Mike Allison can come up with any information / photos. Cheers, Chris

My progress on J2353 APB 560 to date, photos from yesterday 2nd August 2015. One question please, what is the concensus with the front headlamp crossbar, stainless steel, chromed brass/bronze ? The original in place.

It may be wrong, but my Rotax headlamps have chrome painted rims and painted body.

Chris, To me it's difficult to tell the difference between highly polished stainless and chrome, unless the items are side by side. Clearly chrome is bluer, and stainless (or nickel) is more yellow, but if you're unhappy with polished stainless tubing it's easy enough to have it plated at that point!

Chris,

I honestly think stainless steel is the way to go. That's what I have on my J2 and I think it looks fine.

P.S. You can just make out the LED headlight bulbs which work really well.

Thanks Simon, The fitting of the LED bulbs is an excellent upgrade for the extra safety factor, I fitted them to one of my Rovers with good effect. I have found some stainless tube on ebay that looks ok but a little worried about the quality of the material.

Slight digression – is the tube left straight or does it have a kink in it to take it away from the radiator surround please? Mike
