I am afraid the Registration number is not listed in the 2015 printed Register.

Perhaps our M expert Mike Dalby can shed some light on the car.

VC 3065 and VC 3299 were both supplied by S. H. Newsome of Coventry.
Nothing of VC 3753

Rich,
Dick said the car is likely not a survivor, but that doesn't mean there is no record of its existence at some time. The chassis files, archival records, registration documents, or some other information must still survive to make the connection to the identification.

Lew is correct. The Register does have details from the factory and other records of all Triple-M cars that were produced. Only verified survivors find their way into the annual printed list of cars.

Dick,

I think you are overstating things a bit when you say, 'The Register does have details from the factory and other records of all Triple-M cars that were produced'. I would have agreed with you if you had written something other than 'all'. I do not want members thinking that the Register has information about all the Triple-M cars that were produced because as far as I know they do not.

There is nothing in the M type files of of VC 3753, which is why I gave the other two registrations that do survive in the records, intimating that VC 3753, could also have been sold by S. H. Newsome in Coventry, as he was a the MG agent in the area and had driven M types himself.
The Coventry records survive at the for VC at the Coventry museum of British Road Transport, if anybody in the area would care to go and have a look!
Samuel Herbert Newsome was a theatre Owner as well as a garage owner, trialed a Riley in the 1930 Lands End, had class wins in Leaf Francis at Le Mans, and hill climbed at Shelseley in the Becke Special.

The question is how was the chassis No obtained from the Reg No in this instance? Rich

Rich,

Probably from the information contained in the factory chassis files which are held at Kimber House. This information is currently being put into a searchable database.

Rich, Several years ago, the late, great, Michael B Hawke gave me a file that he had been compiling over the years, of Registration numbers in numerical and alphabetical order, with the relevant chassis number added. I omitted to ask Mike where he got the information from, but I guess that it was from every source which was available to him. Obviously the Works chassis files were likely to be the primary source, but in addition, some additional information was gleaned from magazine articles, personal conversations with owners etc. etc. Certainly, this list quotes VC 3753 as being related to chassis number 2M 1131.

I felt that it would be useful to compile a separate list in chassis number order, cross referred to the relevant Registration Number. I have done the Ms, Ds and I think, the Fs, but the Js Ps and Ns are too much of a daunting job, and probably require many long winter hours to make further progress.

Colin B.
