Here they both are. Despite the description of the second one being a J4/J5, it looks more like a P-type to me. Or am I missing something?

I also think the second might be a P type, certainly not a J4 as it has doors.'
The car also has indicators as per the P types, I wonder how the semaphore signal works with that exhaust silencer in the way.

I suspect the semaphore works just as well as the door does :-) |

Definitely a P body, but is that a six cylinder bonnet?

The R Type looks like it may be RA 0256 the Esplen car at Donington in 1935 for the Nuffield Trophy event

SNAP! Available from Emmy Models of Switzerland in exactly that (plain white) livery and race number.

Speaking of R-type models, I picked this one up a few years ago. It was made on commission by the Haris brothers in Hungary and is about 12 inches long.

The P type bears vague similarities to JB4161 as per general and upper cylinder lubricant... |

I can't help thinking that the 'P type' looks like an NE in trials format...silencer added for Brooklands, of course...

I believe that the 3 ‘works’ NDs JB4160, JB4161, & JB4162 were sent of to Brooklands to test/run in the NE race engines.
I wonder if this is a picture of that

The opening in the side of the bonnet looks a bit small to be allowing six pipes to exit.

It does appear to be a 6 cylinder bonnet though

Another small point, there are slats on the bonnet adjacent to the semaphore indicator. Similar slats can be seen on the bonnet of the P bodied trials NEs in some of the few pics we have of them. Not exactly conclusive, but circumstantial evidence m'lud.

I still feel the car is a P type, the bonnet does not look long enough for a 6 cylinder type and the radiator is not F or L?
Also the exhaust outlets from the bonnet side are 4 cylinder.

To return to the original topic, the gent who took the pics was clearly a discerning enthusiast, others all show top class racers of the time. Some are still in single page collections, and it looks like there are some images of R types at Brooklands, possibly Doreen Evans' incident?
