Does anyone know anything about this J2 with Registration Number JY 2022. This is chassis number J3346 and was imported to United States by The Kenning Motor Group, Boothferry Road, Hull, Yorkshire - in perhaps June 1968

The car is not in the historical records of the North American MMM Register.

I bought the car a couple weeks ago (attached is a recent photo when it was being picked up). It is a very decent car albeit is ready for restoration.
Tom Metcalf mentioned that he believes a registry member in Wisconsin saw the car at some point in time - possibly when it was in storage in Long Beach, California. I get the impression the car has not otherwise been seen by anyone else knowledgeable to MG’s - at least since the late 1960’s.
Ineka Sherman with the MGCC offered to research the cars initial build paperwork upon her return from Holiday.
I am very curious of anything anyone may know about the car.

JY is a Plymouth, Devon UK registration mark.
The agents/dealers involved in the sale were Heard Bros Ltd of Bideford, North Devon and Barton Motor Company, Plymouth, Devon.
I am only guessing, but I think that Heard Bros, may have supplied the car to Barton Motors, who then sold it to the first owner, P.G.Stocker and registered it for him.
By 1946 the car was in the ownership of Cpl. D.C.Thrower of King's Lynn, Norfolk.
I don't think the Guarantee card was ever returned. |

It really amazes me that people are still finding MMM cars in need of a restoration. What amazes me even more about you and this car is that when I looked at your profile you are in Cincinnati. Tom. I will have to see what the brand are on the tires - of all things they are retreads too ((Iused two crow bars and a hacksaw to get them off - petrified ) !!! Have an adventurous trip to England.
Sidenote: I found a post in the Los Angeles newspaper for the car being advertised for sale in November 14th to 17th, 1968 - for $1,000 firm (that would have been the second owner in the United States).

As a sidenote to the question on red inner tubes that were in the tires - In researching the importer, Kenning Motor Group aka Kennings, Ltd., in 1968, when they exported the car from England to the United States (Long Beach California), one of Kennings specialties was retreaded tires and of course the car had a set of petrified retreaded tires. I will see if there is some sort of legible marking.
