Which explains the MGA next to it, I wonder if anyone knows which 18/80 was on show, as there weren't that many around at that time when I had my first one, which was a long way off being "showroom" condition.

The 18/80 is 6636, MG1011. It too went to the states as part of the Gerry Goguen collection, and has recently received what can only be described as a very Americanised restoration with remodelled wings and running boards etc. Not to my taste :-)

Jeremy, thank you for the clarification. It must be great to have such records from your father. Kevin, "... has recently received what can only be described as a very Americanised restoration... ". Please join the North American MMM Register at one of our National Meets to see the quality, craftsmanship, and originality of MMM cars, restored in America. Personal taste may not be the best indicator of stereotypes ;-)

Yes, those photographs were taken by my great uncle at Longbridge back in 1963 - interesting to know it was a showroom car at the time, and you can see that the headlight mounting is the same as that shown in the original photograph. Sadly, I don't have a higher resolution picture, as it was scanned from a slide - but I do have pictures of other MMMs taken in around the same period. |
