We have owned this M Type for nearly 20 years. The first owner was Bunny Tubbs, a motoring journalist. We have found reference to him competing at Brooklands in 1934 and various trials, and that the car was supercharged. The attached picture is the car today (unsupercharged and in the style of a 12/12) and one can see the modified driver side bonnet to accommodate said supercharger. We are looking for: - whatever archive pictures that may be out there - any other information that MMM members may be aware - speculation of supercharger type and installation format - any further information about previous owners

Additional questions - any information about existing supercharged M Types - was this a factory fitted option |

Would the supercharger be on the offside of the engine, given that the inlet ports are on the nearside? Or might this have been the type with an inlet pipe passing over the top of the engine?

There isn’t much space on the other side of the engine with the exhaust being there. So this and front mount are the only AA head supercharger mounts I’ve seen

So the inlet pipe goes over the top of the engine, Onno? I’m sure I’ve seen pictures of that, but where?

I am attaching a couple of additional bits of information provided by PWM forum members from the LAT library. It seems the original factory supercharged M Types had the typical MMM supercharger configuration direct drive from crank with s/charger & carburettor within the dumbirons. Also UT 7942 is a 1931 car, whereas factory release was not until 1932. So, did Bunny Tubbs have a prototype or engineer something himself#129300;

Probably EX127 Simon? But odd in that whilst the inlet went over the cam cover; it was on an AB head.

Was the AB head a later development which utilized the inlet going over the cam cover to avoid messing with the blower mounting? |
