Eric Taylor's posting helps me. I have owned PA1212 since 1972 and it is Register Number 285. So I now know that R.J. Mostyn (about whom I have learned nothing through the years) registered the car in January or February 1964. Thanks!

I purchased J2 3118 in September 1987. In September 1988 I went to England for a two week visit ending up at Beaulieu. Prior to my visit I contacted Mike Hawke and was invited to his house for a visit. Mike had arranged to have the badge ready on my arrival and it was during this visit that Mike gave me the badge, number 2540. Without going into my file for more accurate info, I can only say that I registered between September 1987 & September 1988.

I was really new to MMM cars at that time and can remember during my visit with Mike that he was showing the K3 to me. I can remember thinking that I was only interested in seeing the J2, what the heck is this K3 thing. What an idiot was. I didn't know what a K3 was back then. Mike did give me a great ride in the J2, which was my first ride in a J2 and made me feel very welcome in his home.

Jeremy, I hope to make it back to England some day and I would certainly like to get another opportunity to get another "tour" of the K3 in addition to seeing the J2 again.

Best regards,

John

Hi Tom

Interesting subject for discussion, perhaps we can all contribute with our cars and hence help with the detective work!

My NB, chassis NA0960, has Register number 2501. This number was given to me when Barry Foster was Registrar, his letter is undated but I know I applied for the car to be registered as soon as I purchased it in September 1987. I wanted 2500 but that number was rightly allocated to the historic ex Crawford trials NA 2 seater chassis number NA0448.

It was at my suggestion that the list of Register numbers, and the chassis to which they apply, be printed at the back of the printed Triple-M Register. Luckily Registrar at the time Bob Clare and Mike Linward were able to print the list.

I have no idea when number 994 was allocated to L2023, it must be early 1970s?

Regards George Eagle

Well J3437 was registered with 1459 in early 1973. I don't have the correspondence anywhere close to hand (it's all about 2000 miles away) but it was probably January or February.

In early June 1966 Bob Hudson issued the MMM Register number 671 to PA 0397 together with a list of the then current register Officials, I noted today that the Hon. Secretary from that time is still posting wellkeep it coming.

Hi all - I joined the MGCC in February 1968 and registered my PA almost immediately - its number is 919.

Hi All,

To add to the sequence I registered MMM571 as soon as I bought the car, which was in May 1965. Therefore at that time '65 - '66 about 100 cars per year were being registered, thanks Alan for your addition to fill in this piece of the jigsaw puzzle.

During my time as Secretary in the late Seventies I can remember writing a review of the growth of the Register, which I summarised with a bit of statistically aided crystal ball gazing and I then expected that the Register might grow to 3000 - 4000 cars in the long term. Forty years on my prediction is not far out. I have no idea where this appeared, probably in my Safety Fast notes at the time, and I can no longer find the manuscript but if someone else has a better organised set of records than I have then it might be interesting to look it up.

Going off this topic but in a similar area, in about the same period I looked into the relative survival rates of the different road models and was pleased to note that PBs seemed to be both robust and long lived. (This was a topic that I borrowed from Mike Hawke.) At the risk of provoking inter-model controversies, this might also be worth expanding and bringing up to date by those who have better access to more current figures. Dick, Robin, George are you going to pick up this pass and run with it?

My PB YS 5081. Register No. 1963 must have been registered some time between 1975 to 1977, strange, as the car had been off the road for over ten years and had been dismantled and stored in a barn during this period.

None of the previous owners had belonged to our club, so I guess it must have been spotted and reported by a passing club member.

Keith.

Here is a photograph of my first Triple-M car, a 1935 PA 4 seater CKJ 33 , soon after I bought it around 1963 and already on the Register - no comments on the headlamps please!. You can see the Triple-M badge and I think from memory the number was 54 (needs confirmation). However, the registration number does not now appear in the published Register nor does number 54. However, several years ago I was told the car was in the Netherlands.

Is the present owner out there? And no doubt our Registrar can throw light on why it is no longer listed.

John, Your PA (chassis number PA2040) was on the 2005 Register and shown as having Dutch Reg No: 18-21-VD. The owner is shown as Hans Fortman. What we now need is an active Dutch Member to report back to us. Are you awake yet, Cat ?
The Register Number is shown as 114 - nt 54.

Colin,
Thanks for supplying the correct register number for CKJ33 - I was magnifying the photo, but only got the 4 right!
The 2011 Register now lists the owner of 114 as Henk Steinmeijer.

Morning!

Reporting for duty, although of not much help, I'm afraid.
The Dutch registration implies it was registered in Holland somewhere in the late '60s. The RDW (our version of your DVLA) holds no data on this registration, which means it was probably taken off the road a long long time ago and was put in a so-called 'sleeping file'. I have personally never heard of Hans Fortman, but then I've never been an active member of any of the Dutch clubs ...
Will investigate further !

Cheers,
Cat

Mmm, so much for my detective work so far! Forgot to check the current Register ... It's now listed as being owned by Henk Steinmeijer and apparently it has been his since November 30 2007. Another one that I don't know though, I'm afraid. No doubt Robin holds his contact details?
