Just in case this means anything, or is important to anyone, I found this picture for sale on eBay...

If you look through the sellers other items there is a picture of a team of three swept wing cars allegedly on an Alpine Trial of 1933

I seem to recall this picture has been posted before?
The Registration number is not shown in the printed Register. Maybe the car is a hybrid - the brakes are hydraulic and look more like T type and yet the radiator and windscreen supports could be N? The front axle is too wide for it to be an F or an L?

I know if it was an early photo of my own car that appeared that I would be ecstatic; and I'm sure anyone else would jump at the chance of finding a photo of their own car, hence my post.
MG Maverick - Yes that's the 'other' photo I was referring to in my first post.
I think might be two different pictures of the Alpine cars

Do not know of the car, too big for me, but the original registration documents as still alive at the Stoke - on - Trent Archives, Hanley,Library, Bethesda Street, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, ST1 3RS Tel: 01782-238420.
Who lives near enough to go and look?

NJ is Sussex and the records are in Lewes, and so Colin B may have the name of the original owner!

NJ 7134 belonged to PA1826. It doesn't show up on a DVLA search.

PA1826 is shown in the Register, it has been known for some time as it has Register number 1899. I hope the owner sees this lovely photo.
Uniquely the owner is also shown as having PA1825; this has the fairly recent Register number 3502.

Interesting that an NJ registered PA shows up in the photo, as so does the rail sign indicating the photo was taken in Crypton in southwest England - a fair distance from Sussex. Owner maybe had a breakdown while on travel perhaps?

Lew I think that is the trade Mark for Crypton Engine Tuning equipment not a rail sign. The Berkeley Hall Hotel was located in Bournemouth. According to Google Scientific Motors ( Bournemouth ) Ltd was incorporated in 1948 but is now dissolved. The name rang bells with me because I am pretty sure a friend purchased a N type from them many years ago.

I think the sign "Crypton" is for an auto-electric product or service.
There is a telephone number on the "TAXI" sign, but I think it is unreadable.

Scientific Motors are in the phone book from 1950, with an address on Exeter Road. However, the Berkeley Hall Hotel site is now apparently under the Bournemouth International Centre. What we're looking at is the back of the hotel, which seems to have faced the sea, viewed from the east. There's a postcard on Delcampe which suggests that, since the hillside slopes the opposite way: http://www.delcampe.net/page/item/id,257028694,var,Postcard--Berkeley-Hall-Hotel-Near-Pier-Bournemouth-Dorset--1965-DORP14,language,E.html Also note the rooflines and position of the chimneys.
The Scientific Motors garage has gone too, but if you look at the junction of Exeter Road and Cranborne Road on Google Street View, it appears that the boundary wall is still in situ! |
