Hi Jon
Looks like a great start. If nothing else you can plan a more in depth attack once time allows. It is well worth doing if you can see it through so I look forward to seeing your results later in the year

I did note a number of MGs which were clearly larger than the 8hp M-Type Midgets, but time constraints stopped me writing down the details. I will look to rectify that come September. I was seeing many 11.9hp models listed, and also 17.9hp if my memory serves me right.
It's going to be a mammoth task, that's for sure, but I enjoy that.
I have mentioned that my 1932 Minor was originally registered with the number JO 5914. Well, I found the record for it and can let folks know that it was sold new to a Miss Eva Mary Tweed of Mangapapa Farm, Carterton, Oxon. Unfortunately, the house and farm no longer exist as it fell foul of rapid expansion of Carterton due to the opening of RAF Brize Norton in 1937. I believe the farm survived up until the early 1970s when development of the town accelerated. Miss Tweed seems to have married a Mr.Thomas Grimshaw in 1935. I'm continuing the research. |

JO 1 was a demonstrator and is confirmed by the registration to Morris Garages. The number is now on a Renault! JO 5 with the late date of registration and the Black and Red colour combiunation looks to have been on a coupe. It is now on an Audi! JO 98 is now on a Mercedes! However, JO 96 is on 2M1933, but has not been seen for a long time!!

I've sometimes been asked whether my number plate is worth more than the car, a question that really irritates me. However, in the case of JO 96, it's worrying to think that it might be the case. Can't imaging what JO 90 would be worth to a 1960s puppet TV fan.

Whatever happened to John Thornley's MG 1 registration. It was sold many years ago for something like £250,000 Could it still be on an MG ? |

That's probably because it's on a P Type, Colin

A National Tyre Service search this evening reveals -
"MG1 .... vehicle has been identified as a 2010 ASTON MARTIN PETROL 5 DOOR HATCHBACK (RAPIDE V12 AUTO)."
Is anyone anywhere even slightly impressed?

Not impressed Sam!
A DVLA Enquiry shows MG 1 as a 1959 1600cc MG.
I have a photo of this MGA.
There is a 2010 4735cc Aston Martin with the registration mark MG 71. |

John I stand corrected. it seems National Tyres is not up to date with MG 1. Oddly National Tyres has the correct details for one of my cars but for some reason the DVLA has decided it no longer exists.
It is only my opinion but I feel a bought and sold number debases both the donor vehicle and the recipient.
Presumably John Thornley's car MG 1 no longer exists.

I think that the last car John Thornley had MG 1 on was an MGB GT.
