Hi Terry

Thanks for that information. With regards to Squire motors, I have yet to come across this dealership in my research thanks for pointing it out. Thank you also for the information on your current car I will add it the to spreadsheet, would it be possible to provide the date of supply just for completeness of the record?

Thanks

Matthew

Squire Motors were at Remenham Hill, Nr. Henley-on-Thames not Hendon.

Peter.

Thanks for that Terry. On a more general note I have made some progress with a few dealeships (those that have developed into modern day car dealerships). I am awaiting responses from the majority but I'm not holding out much hope, as I imagine my type of historical request would get put to the bottom of the to-do pile. Nevertheless, I will inform everybody as and when I receive information and I will share it if I am able to get on the right side of copyrights.

Thanks once again for your continued support and information. I currently have information on 21 cars, more information on cars is always welcome - please feel free to send me a message or post on the topic.

Hi Matthew
Here is some more info for your spread sheet, my car MG PB (OBP 300) was purchased 1/4/1936 from R Wilson (Monkseaton)Ltd, Cauldwell Lane, Monkseaton, Northumberland.

This is the Dealer that the car was actually purchased from, however the Main Agent mentioned on the Guarantee Acceptance card is A Smart of College Avenue Newcastle upon Tyne.

I have a copy of a note from the MG service dept to Smarts for the repainting of a wing under the Guarantee in which they stated that "£1.5.0 was heavy price" and so would only pay £1 towards the repair.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting the Daughter of the original purchaser who whilst on a visit to England came to my home to see her Dad's old car.

Hope that you find something useful in the above information

Hi Russ

Thanks for the information on your car, I will add it to the spreadsheet now. I have both these dealerships on the spreadsheet but I was unaware that A Smart was a main dealer, an interesting development. It was interesting to hear about the note from MG, I can just about imagine the disbelief of a person from Smarts receiving the car in a damaged state and then undertaking a see-saw of correspondence to resolve the problem.

The link with the original owners daughter was nice to hear, I imagine she managed to fill in some gaps in the car's history. I am trying to do something similar in so much as to try and make contact where possible, with relatives of dealership owners.

Thanks once again

Matthew

Hi Matthew,

If it is of any interest, the Australian importers of MMM MG cars were Lane's motors and the distributer / agent was Britannia Motors of Collins Street Melbourne. There may also have been a Sydney importer but the main one was Lanes.

It's not on the current printed register listing (which I strongly suggest you purchase) with that number.
The register listing may be purchased here...

I very much doubt that registrations were up into 3letters/3numbers as early as 1931 - especially as far advanced as Gxx.
By 1936 about 40% of NB's were still 2letters/4numbers. The rest are 3letters/3 numbers but mainly in the AorBxx range.
My bet is that GNA115 is not the original registration number.

Of the above chassis numbers, J2711, J0512, J3004 and K0306 are on the Register. J3008 isn't but its engine is in J2742 in Italy! Of GNA 115 I can find no trace, but a chassis number might help!

Graham
